Dual Enrollment Policy

Gateway High School offers eligible students the opportunity to participate in Dual Enrollment through Florida Southwestern State College (FSW). Dual Enrollment allows students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously while enrolled at Gateway High School.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for Dual Enrollment, students must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Florida Southwestern State College Eligibility
    • Maintain a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0
    • Earn acceptable college placement test scores as determined by FSW
    • Meet all additional admission requirements set forth by FSW
  2. Gateway High School Requirements
    • Be on track for graduation, earning grade-level appropriate credits
    • Demonstrate the ability to manage the academic rigor and responsibilities of college-level coursework
    • Receive approval from Gateway High School administration and/or counseling staff

Continued Participation Requirements

Students approved for Dual Enrollment must maintain satisfactory academic progress at both institutions. Gateway High School reserves the right to review student performance each term.

Gateway High School may prohibit or revoke Dual Enrollment participation, even if the student remains eligible through FSW, under any of the following circumstances:

  • The student fails more than two classes (high school or dual enrollment)
  • The student earns a college GPA below 2.0
  • The student is not on track for graduation, including failure to earn required credits for their grade level

Academic Accountability

  • Dual Enrollment courses become part of the student’s permanent high school and college transcript
  • Grades earned in Dual Enrollment courses may impact the student’s high school GPA, class rank, and graduation status
  • Students are expected to adhere to all academic policies, deadlines, and codes of conduct of both Gateway High School and Florida Southwestern State College

Approval and Enrollment Process

  • All Dual Enrollment courses must be approved in advance by Gateway High School
  • Students and families are responsible for completing all required application and registration steps by published deadlines
  • Enrollment is subject to course availability and institutional approval

Right to Limit Participation

Gateway High School reserves the right to limit, deny, or discontinue Dual Enrollment participation based on academic performance, graduation progress, or the best interest of the student’s educational plan.
